The Compost Bin , Black Gold

So here's my solution. A plastic storage bin.

Cheap, easy and no matter what still has that "trailer trash" look! Take it, get the drill and go to town on the bottom. The compost needs to breathe, turn it a couple times a week with a small shovel and you have a compost bin!

I started by dumping some useless dirt from some old pots in the storage container. Easy enough! Start gathering your veggie food waste, egg shells, maybe a bit of shredded newspaper, cut up dead "non-poisonous" plants and your in business.

Contrary to belief - there is not a "vomit causing" smell.

This is cause by proteins, meat, oils and things which I prefer just getting rid of. My compost pile smells like a the Michigan forest or a spring day after a shower. You go to plant and just know it is right!

If you think it's getting too rich, add more lifeless dirt.

You'll never find this wonderful concoction at Home Depot, Lowe's or anywhere but your own backyard!

A small step can create change. Feel good about your life - right now!

  2. Dear Ramona,

I like your idea for a compost bin.

Best wishes with your current blog and your gardening. I am also a Tucson Gardener with a little blog that focuses on growing vegetables for food.

    Wishing you the very best.

    Respectfully,

    Jay
